French
Sharlands, London Road, RG14
phone: 01635 528 838
date of review: 16-Nov-99
day & date of meal: Friday, 12th November 1999
type of establishment: Restaurant only
courses eaten: Starter, Main Course and Dessert
cost per head: 30+ (excluding drinks)
value for money: Exceptional
quality of food: Exceptional
quality of service: Exceptional
overall ambience: Fun
comments: Sharlands was recently reviewed by a journalist from the Daily Express who reported that he had "discovered a gem" and that David Sharlands' food "was equal in quality to anything Marco Pierre White ever cooked". David Sharland is the former chef director at The Vineyard at Stockcross, which charges double the amount for similar quality food which he now produces at his own restaurant. It is well worth a trip to Newbury.
