comments: Our host recommended this restaurant. Although we got the feeling some of the waiters could not understand much English, the service was, generally, good. The wine both red and white was delicious and so was the food, which was served quite promptly. I enjoyed the relaxed yet fun atmosphere. I advise others who like traditional English sausages to dine there.

comments: We came across this restaurant whilst frantically searching a restaurant that was still open. Even though it was 2 o'clock by the time we got there, the restaurant was almost full. The restaurant was almost deafeningly noisy but it was all relaxed chatter. It is quite a cosy setting, and you sit almost right next to your neighbour. There are fantastic comfortable armchairs to sit on. The ice cream was excellent - the best pistachio I've had in a long time. It was a 'lucky dip' in some ways - they did not tell me what I was going to get. One thing that frustrated us was that they claimed they had run out of vanilla ice cream when my mother asked for vanilla ice cream with coffee. They then presented me with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in "Zilli's Selection". Overall, the food was tasty and hearty. My spaghetti alla vongole was extremely good, and my mother's sea bass was really well cooked. It is a place to go on special occasions - book a place!

comments: For a supposedly rated, top class restuarant at 50 quid a head, the service here on this particular night was dire. We started knocking percentages of the service charge with every mistake, and there were really so the discretionary nature of the service charge had to be used. With a struggle they managed to remove this from the bill. I've had better service from a tenner a head curry house.

comments: The Award Winning Lantern Taverna. Meze ,Music and Much, Much More... The Lantern is a bustling little taverna situated 100 yards from Ealing Common Tube Station on the Uxbridge Road. It's unique, it's different every night and it keeps winning awards! The latest of these was at The Chelsea Design Centre where it won the London IN BLOOM Restaurant Trophy to add to the EALING IN BLOOM Licensed Premises Trophy that it won last month. The staff are justifiably proud of their latest prestigious award as they were up against all 32 boroughs of London and it was not a competition they entered - the experts nominated them for it. They had no idea they had actually won until Michael, the boss, was invited on stage to collect the award. They put a great deal of thought and effort into retaining the true atmosphere of an authentic Cypriot Taverna, not just with their blooms but in their overall outlook. Cyprus is the home of hospitality and The Lantern brings that hospitality home to Ealing. Michael's father, George Koutas, came to England from Cyprus in the late 1930s: he ran The Lantern until 1986 when his son took over. This year they won a Gold Award from E.C.T Recycling for their pro-active approach towards recycling and environmental care activities. The Lantern also wins through with its food and for the second year in succession has been voted The Gazette's 'Best European Restaurant'. Meze is their speciality and recommendation - the Cypriot way of celebrating. It gives you the opportunity to try a little of every thing on the menu. Leave it to them and they will bring you a selection of about 20 dishes to enjoy. Take your time – 'Siga, Siga' - Your table, once booked, is yours for the whole of the evening. Michael does not rush his guests. Meze, live music, the sheer exuberance of The Lantern and their years of experience will ensure that you have a wonderful time. There is Live Music every single night of the week, but do note; although the food is Greek, the music is English. If you want to find out more, phone them on 020 8992 4267. To read what other people have written about them, try one of the many restaurant reviews on the web - they seem to be featured everywhere at the moment. They are developing their own website, but it's not quite ready yet – in the meantime try www.lammas.com.

comments: Of the many Indian restaurants on Brick Lane, we chose this by chance - but what an inspired choice! The place was fairly quiet for 8pm on Saturday, but it got a lot livelier later. Very good value food, nice big portions, and some fine 500ml bottles of beer. One of us had an exceptional-looking Thali: lots of small individual dishes presented together. The only criticism is that the nans were a bit crispy. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

comments: The chips were cold, the vegetables over-done, and the staff superior in attitude when this was pointed out. The security people on the door (Saturday night) then almost pushed us out of the restaurant when we left, not exactly thanking us for our custom. We shall never be going back - and I shall do everything to make sure everyone I know hears of their poor reputation through my personal experience. One of the very worst restaurant experiences of my life.

comments: This restuarant is fast gaining culinary recognition. I first sent there 6 months ago, and dreturn most weeks. I have often seen celebrities there. It has had several good reviews. It is small but stylishly done out. The service if excellent and the food divine, with desserts to die for. Unusual combinations from aan excellent chef who is getting a name for himself. Well worth a visit, even if Fulham isn't your bag. It is the best in the area by a long shot and well worth travelling too as well..

comments: A simple homely entrance cons you into thinking that you might only have one drink and move on, but once you've been in one of this restaurant-bar's many corners, it's easy to lose track of time and suddenly realise that you should have been somewhere else hours ago. What makes this restaurant-bar one of the most comfortable spots to relax and waste time are the effortless and friendly service, the food, the candles light, the idiosyncratic interior, the quirky charms and the well chosen world music. Unlike a bad blind date, no one seems to mind what your name is or where you come from.

comments: La Tasca is purely and simply exquisite. Never before have I experienced such amiable and attentive staff, perfect speed in the arrival of the meal, gorgeous tasting tapas and even better, a house white that was worthy of more than the £9.75 expected for it. In fact, upon leaving I couldn’t help but feel astonished that the whole experience had been so enjoyable. . The walls are crammed with Picasso replicas and Spanish portraits and there is an abundance of greenery contrasting with the gleaming gothic lights suspended from the ceiling and the winding black iron staircase linking the two levels of the restaurant. La Tasca is the sort of place that shocks you into a coma when you receive the bill. With seven dishes ordered, a bottle of perfect melon infused house white and ‘una copa de fresas y helado’ (Strawberries and Ice-cream) the bill totalled just under £30. Shocked? I was speechless, not only is the restaurant authentic to extremes but the prices reflect those in Spain! A seafood platter of squid rings in batter, tuna, swordfish, whitebait and king prawns, was a small portion in keeping with the whole ethos of tapas but amazingly priced at under £4. A sign of a good tapas restaurant in my opinion has to be the taste and price of the patatas bravas, a stereotypical tapas dish. La Tasca charges just £1.95 for their version consisting of substantial chunks of fried potato, not too crispy, not too soft with a generous but far from stifling serving of chilli tomato sauce. The dish would have sold it to me, if I had not already fallen in love with La Tasca as soon as I entered the bar.
